Failing Drug Test at Your Job: A Brief Analysis

Workplace drug testing is gaining more popularity as employers are opting for screening their potential and existing workers for the presence of any illegal drug habits. The drug tests are conducted on a scheduled basis. However, some employers prefer the element of surprise to get a better view of peoples’ habits. So, they carry out a random drug test. For instance, most companies perform marijuana drug test upon their employees to detect any metabolites of the illicit substances. For this, they may require the workers to pass a urine drug test, oral fluid screening, blood test, hair follicle test, etc.

So, there are myriad resources available online that inform about what is the best strategy for passing a drug test. Several of them are actually effective in concealing the identification of residuals of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc. Many are meant to detox your body and remove any remnants of such consumption. However, quite a lot of them occur as a scam too. So, make your research comprehensive enough to avoid any such fraudulent activity.

Despite all these alternatives, you might consider ‘what happens if I fail a drug test’? Well, the correct answer to it depends upon several factors. The detected concentration of drugs, the type of drug, your stature in a company, the corporate policies, the respective state laws, etc. are some of such determinants. In pre-employment tests, such failure means end of job candidacy. If you are a present worker, then you might be referred to a health professional and/or a drug rehabilitation program on your/company’s expense. Sabbaticals might be provided. However, if your employers are strict and do not tolerate such activities, then a dismissal may also happen. Imprisonment or pressing charges for a positive drug test does not occur because the state laws vary.

Depending upon the severity of the problem and your relationship with concerned upper hierarchical managers, you can justify the consumption of such drugs in particular cases e.g. post-traumatic phases, etc. Nonetheless, it’s best to prevent any such happening than trying to win a lost battle.
